Membrane Expert / Chemical Engineer
Job Description
SepPure Technologies is a CleanTech company that is revolutionizing the energy-intensive chemical separation processes through the application of novel membrane materials and processes. If you enjoy working in an innovative environment, we have a great opportunity for you. At SepPure Technologies, we believe in making a positive impact on the world through sustainable technology. Our chemical-resistant nanofiltration membranes are disrupting traditional chemical separation processes, such as distillation and evaporation, and reducing global energy use, emissions, and pollution. With up to 15% of the world’s total energy spent on industrial-scale chemical separations, SepPure Technologies’ sustainable process is a game changer. We are currently working on transformative projects edible oil, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, solvents, and fine-chemical industries. Join us on our mission to create a sustainable future through CleanTech innovation.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Membrane Expert / Chemical Engineer with a strong background in membrane processes, membrane development, and process enhancements. You should have extensive experience in membrane research and production, including the fabrication and physical characterization of polymeric membranes (hollow-fiber and flat-sheet). A demonstrable track record in solving technical challenges related to membranes and separation processes is essential, as well as experience in developing novel membrane-based processes for industries such as vegetable oil, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical. Your expertise in optimizing production efficiency, conducting process simulations, and ensuring safety and compliance with environmental regulations is highly desirable. Additionally, you should have expertise in designing and engineering process plants, understanding unit processes, and leveraging simulation software and spreadsheet programs to perform process calculations and simulations. Your background in system integration and process controls will be crucial in driving the industrial implementation of our game-changing nanofiltration membrane technology.
Responsibilities
Membrane Development and Fabrication
Fabricate polymeric membranes in both hollow-fiber and flat-sheet configurations.
Design, develop, and optimize hollow-fiber membrane processes.
Perform physical characterization of polymeric membranes (XPS, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, etc.).
Process Development and Enhancement
Interpret laboratory results to establish novel membrane-based processes for various industries.
Develop and scale-up membrane modules (hollow-fiber/spiral-wound) from lab-scale to industrial applications.
Optimize production efficiency, enhance product quality, and reduce costs through design of experiments and root cause analysis.
Engineering Design and System Integration
Prepare engineering documents including P&ID, GA, electrical SLD, termination drawings, control system architecture, signal list, BOM, and other required documents.
Perform process calculations and simulations using engineering design and process simulation software.
Develop control system philosophy, functional design specifications, and software design specifications.
Define control points and parameters for safe operations of membrane systems.
Safety and Compliance
Conduct risk assessments, FMEA, HAZID, HAZOP, and develop procedures for FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of company products.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards.
Project Management and Collaboration
Lead multiple projects efficiently, ensuring they are on schedule and on budget.
Work collaboratively with team members to achieve project goals.
Provide direct support to employees and managers in different situations and projects.
Requirements
Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, or a related field with a focus on membranes.
At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in an engineering firm or with first-hand experience in process plant engineering.
Extensive experience in membrane research and production, including fabrication and characterization.
Working knowledge of membrane module fabrication, module design, and their advantages.
Familiarity with polymers and material compatibility is an advantage.
Excellent project management and leadership skills - ability to lead multiple projects efficiently, on schedule, and on budget.
Proficiency in engineering design and process simulation software will be an advantage.
